Tips for Injuries and Scar Tissue

Though I am basically finished writing on this health blog, there are a few extra posts I would like to share. This is one of those.

I've shared a lot of tips on this blog that I've learned about health. I've written on many different topics and subjects because our health isn't just one thing; our health is affected by many different things.

One topic I have not written on or shared much about is injuries and scar tissue. Indeed, there are many health related issues that are connected to an injury or an accident. Those things make me sad.

On a beautiful evening in Santa Barbara, California, with the date being Thursday, November 30th, 1995, I was outside, trying to catch one of our cats as the sun was setting. To no avail, our cat ran away from me with glee, delighted to be free from going into her kennel cage for the night. (something we put our cats in at night to protect them from coyotes) Before heading back down to our house, I paused momentarily. I looked down the small hill that went into our backyard. Hmm... should I run down it? Or should I go down the sidewalk? The sidewalk would take much longer. Running down the hill would be much faster. As a 13 year old girl with lots of energy, I opted to run down the hill. Before I knew it, I gained tremendous speed while running down that hill with hard packed dirt and lots of shrubbery. As I approached the bottom of the hill, I tripped over some of the shrubbery and down I went, falling into the soft grass of our backyard. Just before falling, I put my right arm out to stop myself, and my forearm jerked back into my upper arm at the elbow, causing a small piece of my "funny bone" to chip off from the elbow of my right arm. For the first time I can ever remember, I screamed in pain.

My parents and siblings had never seen me in so much pain before, and my Dad ended up taking me to the hospital that evening while I missed out on tacos that my Mom had been preparing for supper. For the first time in my life, I sat in a room at the hospital. An x-ray at the hospital that night revealed I had chipped off a piece of the funny bone in my right arm. With my parents in the room, the doctor gave two options for us to consider. One was to cut my right arm open, put in pins and screws, and have a long, visible scar on that arm for life. The other option was to keep my arm in a sling and half cast for three weeks and slowly let it heal on its own. Surprisingly, the doctor thought my arm would heal on its own with some occasional check ups and encouraged that option. My parents agreed.

That was exactly 28 years ago tonight. And while the doctor discussed my broken arm with my parents along with showing x-ray images of it, I sat there with enormous regret at my decision to run down our hill. With tears in my voice, I verbalized to my parents, and to my best friend who came to see me that night in the hospital...

"If only I would have gone down the sidewalk!"

To this day, I can distinctly remember my many verbal and internal - if only.

Injuries and accidents are like that. We don't ever plan them.

Thankfully, just as the doctor predicted, my arm healed fine on its own while going in for occasional check ups. After it healed, I needed some physical therapy to get my arm completely straight again. The muscles in my arm were extremely tight for awhile after the accident. Thankfully, I was able to eventually straighten my arm again. Sadly though, my arm never healed back to its original condition. A small piece of my funny bone never attached back to my arm where it should have been. You might say that my arm healed just slightly broken. I don't think about it very much, and the average person would never know I broke my arm once.

"Healed Broken" would make a good title for a book I think.

"Healed broken" describes many accidents and injuries that happen in our world. Thankfully, for those who know God personally, and have been redeemed by Him, this broken world is not our forever home.

One day my healed broken arm will be restored back to its original (and better than original!) condition.

I believe there are many people walking around with external and internal scars and other debilitating things caused by injuries and accidents. Thankfully, there are massage therapists and physical therapists that can help with muscle related injuries. But for internal scars, there isn't much that can help that most people are aware of.

Thankfully, my broken arm at 13 was my only injury for many years. I slipped and fell down our stairs at the age of 30, but thankfully, nothing broke then that I am aware of.

Sadly, at the age of 37 I had to have major surgery to remove a large, benign, ovarian cyst caused by a strong medication I took 6 years earlier. Anyone who reads this blog is very familiar with the story. That surgery happened in November of 2019. (November hasn’t been the best month for me!)

In order to remove that large cyst, I had somewhat of a large incision - something called a laparotomy. Years ago, I used to occasionally see a large, visible scar on other people and was thankful I never had one. I never, ever wanted to be cut open. Now, I join the ranks of those with larger scars on their body. Scars tell a story. Some stories are told; others are not. God knows them all. And He cares. God didn’t intend for people to be cut open.

Just weeks before being diagnosed with my large ovarian cyst, someone I saw in regards to my fall down our stairs, shared with me that, when used externallycastor oil can break up internal scar tissue.

It does?!

I was surprised. I'd never heard of that before. I learned a short time later that castor oil can also slowly break up internal lumps, bumps, cysts, and tumors!

Castor oil is phenomenal, my friends.

Castor oil is a tremendous gift from God.

Castor oil, named "Palma Christi" in ancient times, means the "Hand of Christ". The healing properties in this plant, created by God, are many!

Castor oil has many, different uses when used externally. Castor oil is better for external use not internal.

Castor oil is something that can be purchased online and, typically, in health food stores.

How do you use it, especially for internal things like scar tissue?

I recommend making it into a pack. There are many videos on YouTube that explain how to do this. The links below are good ones that show you how to make a castor oil pack:

I did castor oil packs on my abdomen, almost daily, when I was trying to dissolve my large cyst. Sadly, my cyst was so enormously large, not much would dissolve that thing! But, I always felt amazing when I did them. If I would have caught my cyst when it was very small, I'm certain that castor oil packs would have helped to dissolve it. Another "if only" in my life. But I didn't know I had a cyst for many years, nor did I know about castor oil packs back then.

Many people who have any kind of abdominal surgery, like I did, and especially women who have had C sections, can later develop internal scar tissue, otherwise known as abdominal adhesions. Abdominal adhesions (scar tissue) can sometimes cause problems by not allowing things to move around as freely as they should, especially in the gut or bowel area.

Sadly, if someone has surgery to remove any excessive, internal scar tissue, the surgery to remove scar tissue will often create even more scar tissue! Massage is sometimes recommended to help with internal scar tissue, but there is not a lot out there that is commonly known that can help with internal scar tissue. Castor oil packs can help to slowly dissolve those internal adhesions. (scar tissue)

Making a castor oil pack, especially for a busy mom, taking the time to stop and rest for an hour during the day can be extremely challenging. Find a time of day that works best for you. Give it time to work. Consistency is the key. As the old saying goes… “slow and steady wins the race.” Castor oil packs work, but they do take time.

Another recommendation for internal scars is a supplement called "serrapeptase". What is that supplement? It is systematic enzyme that can help to break up internal scar tissue.

I don't know a lot about it, but have heard good things from someone I know, personally, (an older woman) who has taken it. This woman had scarlet fever as a young child and developed scar tissue around her heart. She almost died later on in life from heart issues, caused by the scar tissue around her heart. She took this supplement, and it helped to dissolve the scar tissue around her heart. So amazing!

I highly recommend castor oil for internal scar tissue, adhesions, and other internal related things caused by accidents and injuries.

Castor oil is a tremendous gift from God!
