Coffee and Female Hormones

Until two years ago, I didn't know there was a connection between coffee and hormones, and in particular, coffee and female hormones.

God created women (and men) with many different hormones. Two main hormones in women are called: estrogen and progesterone.

As women, we are so incredibly and intricately made by God, it sometimes blows my mind! I'm particularly amazed at a woman's monthly cycle pattern and how our hormones fluctuate and change throughout just one month. It's astonishing, and it points to our marvelous, incredible Creator

Sadly, there are many women today, especially in the United States, who struggle with all kinds of hormonal, female issues such as: endometriosis, PCOS, fibroids, cysts, polyps, etc. to name just a few. And the list goes on!

Sometimes, it can be difficult to trace the exact cause of those things, but when God created women, all those female health problems were not part of God's will or plan.

For some women, female related health issues are genetic weaknesses. For many women, the cause is poor diet/ nutrition and/or extreme stress. Another cause for a female related health issue could be a reaction to a certain drug or medication.

What is the main culprit behind most female health issues such cysts, fibroids, and endometriosis?

It's too much estrogen

We need estrogen. God created it. But when we have too much of it in our body, it can (and does!) cause things like cysts and fibroids. Those who have studied and understand female health call this "estrogen dominance". It's not a good thing.

What causes too much estrogen?

There are many things that can cause it, but one that can contribute to it is none other than, you guessed it - coffee!

Below is an article written by someone else, not me, about this very thing.

There are many articles online just like the one shared above about coffee and female hormones. Even medical websites encourage women to cut back on their caffeine intake during a certain time of their monthly cycle. This is nothing new.

If you're a coffee lover like I am, reading this probably made your heart sink; mine did when I found this out. I'm sure this post isn't so fun to read. Because I love and care about other women though, I felt the need to share and inform other women about this.

If you are a woman, struggling with a female related issue, I would highly encourage you to stop drinking coffee completely. Caffeine only makes female problems worse!

Granted, coffee does have some health benefits, and some women can handle coffee better than other women can. I know some women who cannot drink it at all, and some don't even like it.

If you're a woman who doesn't drink coffee at all, good for you. I admire you.

If you're an overall, healthy woman, like me, who loves coffee, I would highly encourage you to drink no more than one cup a day. (and preferably organic like I wrote about in my last post to avoid all the chemicals and pesticides) Coffee affects women's hormones. (and it can do the same to men, but not to the same degree as women.)

On a positive side note: when I've stopped drinking even my one cup of organic coffee in the morning, I've noticed a change. Two years ago, as my hormones began to balance out, I slowly began to lose weight without even trying!

As women begin to approach age 40, their hormones begin to change a little. Many women begin to gain a lot of weight and struggle like crazy to get it off, even if they are exercising and trying to cut certain foods out of their diet. Why? Because their weight gain is a hormonal issue. Having too much estrogen causes you to gain weight and makes it nearly impossible to lose any weight!

You don't think coffee is addictive? Try to stop drinking it and see what happens. Because of the caffeine in it, coffee is addictive. It's hard to cut back or even stop drinking it completely. I know because I've tried it.

But, I've found that it is so worth it for better health!
