Peanut Butter
It's that time of year again when mothers are preparing school lunches for their children. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are a common, good, old fashioned, classic for school lunches!
Yum! I love peanut putter and jelly sandwiches! I also enjoy peanut butter and honey sandwiches, and I grew up eating a lot of those for lunch!
Peanut butter is also delicious with fruit such as a banana or apple slices - a very healthy and nutritious snack! (unless you're allergic to nuts)
However, not all peanut butters are created equal. What do I mean?
Any grocery store selling jars of peanut butter will reveal this fact very quickly if you read the ingredient label on the back of the jar.
Today, I went to Walmart and took a few pictures to demonstrate the difference.
The first three pictures I took (below) is the standard Walmart (Great Value) brand of crunchy peanut butter sold for just $1.57 a jar! (what a deal!)
Take a look at the ingredients in it though. Beside peanuts, it also has sugar and hydrogenated oils. (cottonseed and rapeseed oil are some of the worst oils for your health!) This peanut butter might taste really good, but it is not good for your health.
Now compare that with their Great Value brand of organic, crunchy peanut butter. See the difference in the ingredients?
Just dry roasted peanuts and sea salt. That's it. That is real, true peanut butter! There is nothing else added except sea salt. (which is good for you)
The next time you plan to do some grocery shopping, consider purchasing real peanut butter. It does not have to be this brand or even organic. I simply used this common brand to illustrate the difference.
As seen in the price difference, you will pay more (and stir more because of the natural peanut oil on the top) for real peanut butter vs. the junk kind, but your health is so worth it!
Stay tuned as I plan to share a yummy recipe soon using real peanut butter!
