Health Post # 4 - For Women
This post was written for women and with women readers in mind. Though anyone is welcome to read this post, please keep in mind that this post was written explicitly about things in regards to women's health.
This is my last post, specifically for women, but this one may be the most important.
Four years ago (summer of 2019), I learned about the things I’m sharing in this post.
If you read my health story on this blog, you know that, four years ago, I was diagnosed with a large, benign, ovarian cyst. Before having that large cyst, I never had any female problems.
My cyst was caused by a strong medication I took 6 years earlier (in 2013), a medication that comes with the most serious warning that the FDA gives. (called a black box warning) My body did not like that medication, and as a result, it created a fluid filled cyst on my left ovary. I paid a very high price for taking that medication which resulted in not only major surgery to remove that cyst (6 years later), but also resulted in the loss of my left ovary and tube.
In between my time of diagnosis and surgery, I did a lot of research about what causes cysts in women - and I learned a lot. I learned a wealth of information about women's hormones and things that cause cysts in women - in the ovaries, in the womb, and in the breasts.
I knew I couldn't keep this information to myself. I needed to share this with others, especially women.
During that year, I learned about two different women, one of them being an actual medical doctor who helps people to reverse many different health conditions and diseases doing nothing more than a high nutrition protocol, using completely raw, plant based foods and smoothies. Her name? Dr. Brooke Goldner. I've shared her green smoothie recipe on this blog here.
The other woman I learned so much from, especially in regards to women’s hormones, is a nutritionist and a health educator. Her name? Barbara O’ Neill.
Not only did I learn so much from a YouTube video of a health lecture by her, I also had the incredible privilege of meeting her in person, right in the town I live in that summer. For me, that was a God thing. Barbara O’ Neill is from the country of Australia. Not only is her beautiful, Australian accent enjoyable to listen to, she also has a wealth of knowledge on how the human body works. Barbara O’ Neill is a Christian, and she understands that the human body was marvelously created and designed by God.
I am going to share a video here that I would highly encourage and urge every woman reading this blog to watch. If you are a busy single woman or a busy mom reading this, you may have to watch this video in portions since this health lecture is almost an hour long. This video is specifically about hormones. I would suggest only young women of age 18 or older to watch this. Why? She is very explicit (extremely so!) in regards to men and women’s hormones in this video. You may even want to listen to this video with earbuds on if you have young, listening ears around. The information she shares is priceless. More people need to know this. Click the link below to watch.
Cysts in women, in the ovaries, in the womb, or in the breasts, do not happen for no reason. There is always a cause. There is always a reason. Quite often, many women are clueless as to what that reason is. Please watch the video link above because Barbara O’ Neill explains it so much better than I can since this is what she does. She is a health educator.
But, simply put, what cause things like cysts in women?
Often, too much estrogen.
Estrogen is a hormone that God created. It is a hormone that women absolutely need. But, when you have too much estrogen in your body, it can cause problems - things like cysts, fibroids, tumors, and even cancer.
What causes too much estrogen in the body?
Different things can cause too much estrogen in the body. Things like certain chemicals, (toxic laundry detergents, toxic body care products, toxic cleaning products), certain plastics for food or water storage (this is why you see more glass food storage and water bottles available today), certain meats (like non organic), and certain medications can all contribute to having too much estrogen in the body.
Barbara O’ Neill mentions all of these things in her lecture in the video shared above. Basically, when your body gets into an imbalanced or overloaded state (too much estrogen!) it creates cysts and tumors. For women, the body often stores those “toxins” in the breasts, in the womb, or in the ovaries.
My body got into an “overloaded” state with the incredibly strong medication I took, and what did it do? My body created a cyst.
How do you help your body rid itself of too much estrogen?
Many things I've shared on this blog can help your body get rid of too much estrogen. Things like drinking pure water, getting enough sleep, sunshine, fresh air, exercise, a nutritious diet, etc. all help tremendously. Those simple things I learned from my mom growing up.
But there are a few other simple, easy things you can do to help eliminate too much estrogen in your body.
Things like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, brussel sprouts etc. (also known as cruciferous vegetables) can help your body to get rid of too much estrogen. (these vegetables are also known to be anti-cancer.)
But remember! It's also very important to stop using the some of the things that contribute to having too much estrogen mentioned above.
Another amazing thing that God created is flaxseeds. Flaxseeds are incredible for women's health. You may have noticed that the flower pictures I've shared in the last few posts for women are flowers from different flax plants. Blue flax, as shown in this post, is the most common. Regular flaxseeds come from this plant. Linen fabric (the best fabric you can wear!) also comes from the blue flax plant.

Flaxseeds not only help to get rid of too much estrogen in the body, but they are also full of Omega 3's, something that is anti-inflammatory.
And if you don't have enough estrogen in your body (something that can happen as women get older into menopause age), flaxseeds can help contribute to having more good estrogen in your body. Flaxseeds will never contribute to more bad estrogen in the body.
Flaxseeds are an amazing breast cancer preventative.
Phenomenal isn't it?
So, how do you get more flaxseeds into your diet?
You don't want to take too much at once. Flaxseeds are high in fiber, so I recommend using only about one teaspoon to begin with. (working up to one Tablespoon a day)
Walmart sells a 1-2 pound bag of organic whole (or ground) flaxseeds for about $7.00. That is not a bad price, and it will last you awhile. I'm sure you can find organic flaxseeds in other grocery stores as well.
I'm going to make two very simple suggestions on ways to incorporate flaxseeds into your diet.
When the weather is nice and you want to make a smoothie, add about one teaspoon of flaxseeds to your smoothie. Your blender will grind them up, and you will hardly taste them. (flaxseeds have more nutrition in their raw form) I know of no easier way to get flaxseeds into your diet than to add them to a smoothie.
In the winter, when the weather is cold and drinking a cold smoothie is something that most people likely don't want, I have another simple suggestion.
I recommend taking flaxseed oil. The seeds are better, but you will still get health benefits from taking fresh flaxseed oil.
Barlean’s Flax Oil is a highly reputable brand, and you can store a small bottle of that oil in your fridge. You do not want to cook with flax oil. Flax oil is only for using in its raw form. You can take one Tablespoon by mouth every day. I have done this, and personally, I do not mind the taste of it at all. (it's worth it for the health benefits I'm getting!)
If you decide to do this, especially as you get older (perhaps in your 40's or 50's) as a breast cancer preventative, I recommend getting Barlean’s flax oil with the "blue label" - the one that has lignans in it. You want that. Their "red label" flax oil does not have the lignans in it. (the lignans are a good part of the plant that you want)
Who knew that God gave us such a gift in the flax plant? Not only for linen fabric, but also in flax seeds and flax oil!
All I can say is: “Thank you, Abba Father!”
As shared in this post, I have learned things about health, nutrition, and women’s hormones from others. This is not “random information” that I’m pulling out of the sky or getting from Google. (you can actually find almost anything you want about something, negative or positive, on Google.) I’ve learned things from people who are actual doctors or nutritionists, or from people who have learned from nutritionists. The two women mentioned in this post know their stuff - they see amazing results all the time in their patients. Dr. Brooke Goldner and Barbara O’ Neill have written books which are available on Amazon.

The human body, as designed by God, can heal itself if given the right conditions.
God, in His Word, tells us that He gave us plants for food and medicine (healing). (Genesis 1:29 and Revelation 22:2)
The two women mentioned in this post believe in eating a plant based diet, and they see incredible results in their patients, thus proving God’s Word.
Personally, I believe if you are healthy, you can eat some animals products, and be totally fine. (I personally believe that eggs and fish, along with fish oil, have wonderful health benefits!) Animal products should be limited though. The more plants you eat, the better!
And, dear readers of this blog, this pretty much concludes everything I wanted to share on this blog.
I may share an occasional post on this blog, especially if I come across something good that I want to share.
Stay tuned because, sometime in the coming months, I plan to share another post about practical ways to incorporate more plants (fruits and vegetables) into your every day meals.
Plants are an incredible gift to us from God! They bring healing to the body. Glory to God!
Disclaimer: I am not a medical doctor, and I have no medical training. The things I share on this blog are simple, practical things that I've learned help with good health.
