Chiropractic and Massage

Before closing out this year, I had one more bonus post to share.

Chiropractic and massage - both of these have some tremendous health benefits.

I remember the first time I saw a chiropractor at the age of 23. I'd never seen one before in my life. As far as I knew, I never needed one, and I wasn't quite sure what to think of them. But after tripping and falling very hard over a large, unseen rock one dark, cold, December night after caroling with friends, my hip let me know several months later that something was out.

At the recommendation of some good friends, I scheduled an appointment with their chiropractor. During my visit with the chiropractor, I was amazed! After just two adjustments, everything was back in place and no longer bothered me. I had a new appreciation for chiropractors after that.

A short time later, at the recommendation of my friends, I learned a lot more about the health benefits of chiropractic care, particularly for adjusting the back and neck.

Through a wonderful chiropractor, I learned some things I never knew before. I learned that, in the human body, the first thing to develop in a new, little person growing inside their mother's womb is the nervous system which specifically includes the brain/brain stem and spinal cord.

The spinal cord is inside the spinal column - the vertebrae in our back. There are many nerves that go out from the spinal cord and column (our back!) that affect the rest of the body. I learned that if any of those vertebrae are "out" in the back (a term called subluxation by chiropractors), those nerves are not able to work as well, thus causing an affect on other areas of the body. Wow! Who knew? I sure didn't!

For that reason, friends of mine would see a chiropractor frequently, at least once a month (if not more!), to make sure that everything was in place in their back and neck.

Over the years, I have seen chiropractors for this very reason and have noticed some very positive health benefits from getting an occasional chiropractic adjustment.

If something feels out in your back, getting a few chiropractic adjustments from a good chiropractor can make a huge difference in your overall health!

Getting an occasional massage can be the same way. Just a simple Google search on the many health benefits of a massage will prompt some to "treat themselves" to getting one. While massages are usually more expensive than a chiropractic adjustment, massages also have some tremendous health benefits! Getting a massage can help to lower stress hormones, reduce muscle tension, improve circulation, and even stimulate the lymphatic system - all good things for the human body.

Like chiropractic care, getting a massage can also help with some injuries.

The human body has been marvelously designed by God. Psalm 139 states this clearly. (Psalm 139:14)

I'm thankful for chiropractors and massage therapists who can help bring help and healing to the body when it is needed.

Disclaimer: I am not a medical doctor, and I have no medical training. The things I share on this blog are simple, practical things that I've learned help with good health.
